Who We AreCAMEO is strongly committed to creating opportunity, employment, and enjoyment for musicians and others who wish to make a contribution to the community in a musical way or in a musical environment. Our Constitution states at the outset that we shall encourage and promote the development of a community of musicians and lovers of music. CAMEO was built on the idea that these two groups are naturally drawn to ---and dependent on--- each other! Musicians thrill an audience with their talents and, in turn, that audience, the music-lovers, brings out the best in the musicians and makes it possible for them to earn a living with those talents by attending---and spending on---their performances and their recording projects. What We DoCAMEO sponsors events and programs that provide opportunity to musicians of all ages. In the process, we bring enjoyment to and involve and benefit many others who are not musicians but who work, or aspire to work, in the music industry, and also those who have no aspirations to a career in music but who enjoy the music scene, love music and musicians, and may contribute in other ways to events and projects centered around music. Perhaps a good way to understand CAMEO is to look at it as a blend of elements from three types of organizations that are each similar to and yet different from CAMEO. CAMEO is in some ways similar to a Musician's Union or a Music Industry Association in that we seek to build a sort of self-help network for musicians and others in the music industry, and to provide opportunity, incentive, and assistance to each of these groups. CAMEO is in some ways like a Music Appreciation Society in that we try to bring good music at an affordable cost to our members and to the community as a whole and also to encourage the development of musical talents. Here are some of the projects and programs that CAMEO is involved in:
