Music Awards 2006 General Information |
The CAMEO Music Awards are given annually to recognize the talents, efforts and achievements of the finest emerging artist members of CAMEO. (See also: CAMEO Music Awards Overview and History.) The 2006 CAMEO Music Award winners will be decided jointly by the general membership of CAMEO and a panel/nomination committee of qualified persons who are invited to participate by the directors of CAMEO. Artist members of CAMEO who wish to stand as candidates for nomination must submit an application and various promotional materials to CAMEO. For details, see eligibility and conditions. Please note: only members signed up on or before October 31, 2006 will be eligible to stand as nominees for CAMEO Music Awards 2006. The panel will rate the eligible candidates in each category according to a set of criteria based on their talents and their efforts and achievements during the the 2006 Award Eligibility Period (Nov. 1, 2005 - Oct. 31, 2006). According to these ratings, the panel will chose 3 - 5 nominees for each award. Each nominee will be assigned a score (out of 100) based on the ratings of the panel. (Eg, Top rated nominee: 30 pts 2nd: 25 pts 3rd: 20 pts 4th: 15 pts 5th: 10 pts) During the week of January 9 - 16, 2007, members of CAMEO will cast votes after hearing the music of each nominee and considering biographical information concerning their achievements during the 2006 Award Eligibility Period. Eligibility to vote will be limited to members in good standing who sign up on or before Oct. 31, 2006. "In good standing" shall be understood to describe members whose membership fees are paid up to date, who are not under any suspension by CAMEO, who have fulfilled all obligations agreed to with CAMEO, and who have conducted themselves in a professional manner in regard to CAMEO. No member may vote unless they submit a signed Voter Integrity Statement. This statement verifies that they have checked out the nominee profiles on the CAMEO site and are familiar with all of the nominees and their talents and achievements in every category in which they have chosen to vote. Each nominee will be assigned points according to the percentage of the votes cast for them. Eg, if 50 per cent of the eligible voters cast their vote for a particular nominee, that nominee will receive 50 points. The points assigned by the panel and the membership vote will be combined. The winner will be chosen according to this combined score. In effect, the votes of general membership will account for 50 per cent of the final decision and the ratings of a qualified panel will account for the other 50 per cent. In the event of a tie between two or more nominees, the decision of the panel shall determine the winner. Why have we chosen this system to determine the winners of the CAMEO Music Awards? The CAMEO Board of Directors has developed this system of voting because we feel that it is the best way to ensure that (a) only highly qualified candidates may win CAMEO Music Awards, and (b) the members of CAMEO have a say in choosing the winners of these awards. We believe that in the near future these awards will carry a considerable amount of prestige in the music industry at large and represent significant career achievements for both winners and nominees. They can only become so --- and remain so --- if we set very high standards in selecting our nominees and winners. When it becomes known in the music industry that only elite, serious artists may win or be nominated for the CAMEO Music Awards, they will become important career stepping stones for those in this select group . We encourage all of our members to participate in this process and to conscientiously exercise their right to cast votes for their choices as the winners of the CAMEO Music Awards for 2006.
