Ideals and Traditions

CAMEO is based on these ideals and traditions that are as old as the hills, but as powerful as ever:

the ideal of a community effort --- that we can achieve more through collaboration and cooperation than through competition and isolation.

the idea of people working together in a network to create opportunity for all.

the idea that --- by coming together and interacting, by contributing, by supporting and helping each other, motivating each other, and making things less difficult for each other --- we can create the conditions whereby we can produce, individually and as a group, something that we can all be proud of --- and have a lot of fun along the way!

the idea that people who come to our events have the right to be, and must always be, treated with respect and dignity in a safe, friendly, and enjoyable environment.

the idea that, as CAMEO bears the name of an elegant and valuable piece of jewelry, a beautiful figure or face carved out of a precious stone, CAMEO must therefore always represent class and artistry and something fine and beautiful and valuable.

the belief that music, as the (truly named) universal language, has an incalculable power to influence and affect those who enjoy it and are exposed to it, and that, recognizing this power and the responsibility that goes with it, CAMEO must stand for musical expression that is life-giving, inspiring, and creative, and never for what is demoralizing, degrading, or destructive.
